Start with existing preparation
Say whether the object is unpacked, wrapped, boxed or crated. Record the outer dimensions of existing packaging and whether it can be opened for inspection.
Share the object details
Materials, projections, surfaces and detachable parts affect preparation decisions. Do not assume a standard box or generic instruction is appropriate for a fragile or valuable item.
Review the proposed scope
Ask what preparation is included, what dimensions remain to be confirmed and who supplies any specialist materials. Packing suitability is not determined by the volume tool.
Keep the record
Keep the agreed packing description and handling instructions with the shipment file. An item-only measurement remains different from a final packed measurement.
